Tissue Adhesives in Clinical Med
The first edition of Tissue Adhesives in Wound Care coincided with the approval of the first cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive approved by the Food and Drug Administration in the United States. Since the original work, other cyanoacrylate adhesives have been approved for wound closure and multiple other uses. Non-cyanoacrylate adhesives such as fibrin based adhesives as well as other synthetic and protein polymers have become more popular and deserve attention as do cements. This second edition is broader in scope and depth and includes all types of tissue adhesives, their proper indications and uses. Tissue Adhesives in Clinical Medicine, 2e will serve as an in-depth reference on all tissue adhesives so that physicians and surgeons have a one-stop reference to learn about the various materials, their indications, and how to use them properly. Most chapters follow a similar format looking at the history and development, chemistry, toxicity, clinical use, regulation, cost, effectiveness, and optimal application techniques. Potential pitfalls are identified as are practical tips to achieve optimal outcomes. Figures are used to illustrate key points highlighted in the text. The FDA has contributed a chapter on the regulation of tissue adhesives to further the understanding of the availability and regulation around these products. All chapters are appropriately referenced for further investigation. The accompanying CD-ROM includes video files illustrating techniques.
