The first edition of Tissue Adhesives in Wound Care coincided with the approval of the first cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive approved by the Food and Drug Administration in the United States. Since the original work, other cyanoacrylate adhesives have been approved for wound closure and multiple other uses. Non-cyanoacrylate adhesives such as fibrin based adhesives as well as other synthetic and protein polymers have become more popular and deserve attention as do cements. Most chapters follow a similar format looking at the history and development, chemistry, toxicity, clinical use, regulation, cost, effectiveness, and optimal application techniques. Potential pitfalls are identified as are practical tips to achieve optimal outcomes. Figures are used to illustrate key points highlighted in the text.
